  • Full Description:

The Trust employs around 4,500 staff, making it one of the largest single employers in the area, with an annual financial turnover of about £200 million and is currently preparing an application to move to Foundation status. The organisation is entering a truly exciting time of change as it prepares to re-model both hospital sites to ensure the delivery of safe, accessible and high quality healthcare services in North Cumbria for future generations.

You will complement a team of 20 consultants, 1 specialty grade doctor and 8 trainees. The anaesthetic department is well equipped and has recently installed new Draegar anaesthetic machines in all theatres. All major adult surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgery are covered. A significant proportion of the workload includes anaesthetising for major GI, head and neck and revision hip surgery. Paediatric procedures are typical of a district general hospital. There is a busy intensive care with over 800 admissions in the last year and our obstetric unit has approximately 1700 deliveries per year.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate management and leadership skills, be able to manage change, service development and modernisation; take part in audit, teaching and training and show innovation in the work place. The posts are offered on a 10 PA basis though it is likely that a further 2 PAs will be available by mutual agreement.

The Anaesthetic Department has an excellent record in the teaching and education of our speciality trainees as well as contributing to the Newcastle University Undergraduate Curriculum.

The post offers the opportunity to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty including the Lake District National Park with excellent road (M6) and rail communications with easy access to the Scottish Borders, South West Scotland and the Pennines.
