As a mentor you would provide students with mental health difficulties assistance to develop confidence and organisational skills in order to manage a workload, deal with issues that impact upon study. The long term aim is to help the student maintain academic progress. It should be seen as a role that will reduce the level of support needed over time by introducing coping strategies and techniques. A mentor encourages a student to build on their strengths and avoid negativity.
For this role you need to be educated to degree level or equivalent and have experience of the academic environment. You must have dealt with adults with mental health difficulties previously
The is a flexible, part time, ad hoc role. There are no fixed hours as it depends on the number of students that need support and where they are located. Most students require between 1 and 2 hours of support per week.If you are interested please apply as soon as possible.
